Swarm’s commercial hardware is FCC and CE certified

October 6, 2020

We are pleased to announce that earlier this year Swarm’s commercial satellite modems completed certification in the United States, UK, Canada, EU, Australia, and New Zealand, allowing us to sell them directly to companies for commercial operations. This device certification, combined with our U.S. satellite license, means Swarm can operate our entire commercial network.

Just like radio transmitters (whether WiFi routers or cell phones), all satellite modems must undergo a certification process to ensure they work according to spec and avoid creating potential interference with other devices. The FCC symbol on electronic devices is the mark of successful completion of the certification process, acknowledging that the electromagnetic operation of the device in question is consistent with FCC-approved limits.

Swarm’s devices, classified as Licensed Non-Broadcast Station Transmitters, were tested and certified in a professional anechoic chamber by TÜV SÜD America, a global certification company.

With all regulatory boxes checked, Swarm is excited to have now begun serving commercial customers.
